The meatballs were also delicious two large meatballs were served in a rich tomato sauce. The Macaroni and Cheese was also very good, topped with a very generous serving of taasty cheese which had been grilled to perfection. The Broccoli Au Gratin was also delicious the broccoli was cooked to perfection, with a crispness without being mushy and overdone. The roasted beets were excellent, with ample pieces of beet on a bed of baby arugula, and accompanied by a light red wine vinaigrette. The appetisers we selected were the Roasted Beet with Goats’ Cheese the Tenderloin Meatballs, the Macaroni and Cheese, and the Broccoli Au Gratin. This occurred without fuss, and all dishes arrived at the table at the same time. We ordered a number of appetisers and a steak dish, with the request that they were all to be brought together. The menu is quite comprehensive as the name of the restaurant suggests, it specialises in steaks, so that was one of the the choices for our party of two for a relaxed dinner.

Waiter service thought or dining experience was warm, without being obtrusive or annoying. We arrived without a reservation, but were seated promptly in a quiet corner of the restaurant it was a mid-week evening yet the restaurant was extremely busy. Steakhouse 85 is a modern, contemporary steakhouse, with a spacious interior which reflects a relaxed approach to dining. It’s certainly better than the Catherine Lombardi restaurant by the Monument Square Park. This is a civilised and very decent restaurant, and in my opinion the best in the university city of New Brunswick. We all still had a great time, and I would do it again I have spent more than this on meals, but this one was a bit of a surprise. With extras, including tips and parking, I spent $250.00. The table gave the experience five starts as I would have, but in my mind, it became four after receiving the bill. He replied: 'Exquisite' (There it is Bob). I asked my friend how he would describe it. We all agreed that everything was prepared with excellence and to our liking. The appetizers included salads and Calamari the entrees were Filet Minon and Crusted Grouper with sides of mashed potatoes, spinach, and mushrooms followed by desert and coffee. Our waiter was well groomed and communicated clearly and redundantly, repeating everything he heard down to the wellness of the meat so as to eliminate misunderstandings. This a Prix Fixe event, held on Fridays, that includes a three-course dinner and a bottle of wine per couple. We all had one drink at the bar and then we were brought to our table to enjoy 'Date Night'. Downtown New Brunswick is upscale, as is the restaurant and is well known for its ambiance, food and service. They made the reservation for 5:30 PM and we met at the restaurant. When we were asked by our good friends if we would like to join them for dinner, we of course said yes.
